Habitat for Humanity Calcasieu Area needs four elements in place to be successful - funding, volunteers, a deserving homeowner, and land to build on.
Habitat for Humanity acquires land in several ways including outright donation, purchase, or a combination of donation and purchase. Habitat purchases land at fair market value as determined by a licensed appraiser. We do not accept or purchase property in the floodplain. We prefer to acquire lots in neighborhoods that already have existing Habitat homes; however, our Construction Committee is not purchasing property at this time, but we are accepting donated buildable property in any of the five parishes where we are chartered to build.
